Shane Boehne grew up in Henderson, Minnesota, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota Crookston in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Management and Ecological Restoration. After graduating, Shane served as a Wildlife Technician with the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks monitoring mortality of radio-collared deer, elk, antelope, and bighorn sheep. He also worked for Prairie Restorations Inc. managing restored prairies in central Minnesota. For two years, Shane worked with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources as an Urban Wildlife Technician providing wildlife conflict resolution in metro Atlanta. He helped citizens from various socioeconomic backgrounds and with varying degrees of wildlife knowledge to implement wildlife management strategies to minimize conflicts. Human-deer conflicts were his favorite job task and the foundation for his passion for urban deer management.
Under the direction of Dr. Gino D’Angelo and Dr. B. Bynum Boley, Shane's Master of Science project will research current urban deer management programs in other states; explore the motivations, objectives, and preferences for deer management among urban, suburban, and semi-rural residential communities in Georgia; and develop a decision framework for managing deer in residential communities in Georgia.
