The UGA Deer Lab has conducted research looking at the effects of simulated and targeted removal of deer from localized areas to reduce human conflicts (e.g., in surburban communities and adjacent to roads).  In addition, we have tested the value of targeted removals for preventing overbrowsing of timber stand regeneration and forest understory recovery.  One study on a state park in Georgia prompted subsequent hunter-based removals to achieve long-term habitat recovery.
