Jordan Youngmann hails from Hoosick Falls in Upstate New York. His undergraduate education was at Hobart and William Smith Colleges with degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies. He worked for a year as a technician for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources before completing a M.S. degree in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture at Mississippi State University. His thesis research studied population genetics of white-tailed deer in the Southeast.
Jordan is currently working on his dissertation research under Dr. Gino D’Angelo, studying coyote populations in South Carolina using noninvasive genetic sampling. The project is a collaborative effort including the UGA Deer Lab, U.S. Forest Service, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory. The study is designed to estimate coyote densities across the state through spatial capture-recapture, investigate resource selection, and assess population genetic structure.
In his spare time, Jordan enjoys cooking wild game and exploring the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and hiking.
