Jack Derochers grew up in Athens and Dallas, Georgia.  He earned an undergraduate degree in Forestry at the University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources.  He became interested in the outdoors through spending time with his father hunting and fishing.  He has more recently discovered an interest in podcasts because of their help when teaching outdoor skills to others and personal enrichment while driving on many long road trips.

Jack has worked previously to teach others about shooting sports and natural resources through years of working with Georgia 4-H.  In addition, he worked as a camp counselor through Clemson University.  These opportunities allowed him to gain experinece teaching inexperienced students about natural resource topics.  Through teaching others, Jack discovered that many topics in natural resources are commonly misunderstood by the public, or poorly documented.

Under the direction of Dr. Gino D'Angelo and Dr. Deena McKinney, Jack's Master of Natural Resources project will focus on creating and leading a new course at Warnell during the Fall 2022 semester.  This course will be a 1-credit hour course focused on podcasting, and it will be offered to both undergraduates and graduate students.  Jack also will write an instructional manual for others to use as a guide when planning and developing podcasting courses.
