When we capture deer at various field sites, or work with deer at the Whitehall Deer Research Facility, we often use immobilizing drugs. We have collaborated with researchers at The University of Tennessee to test various drug combinations for use with whitetails. Our research objective has always been to identify drug combinations that 1) require a small volume of drug, 2) take effect quickly, 3) provide safe immobilization, and 4) provide rapid recovery after administering a reversal.
