Scientists at the University of Georgia Deer Research Laboratory are committed to conducting research to improve understanding of white-tailed deer biology and management. The UGA Deer Lab is directed by Dr. Gino J. D'Angelo and Dr. Karl V. Miller. David Osborn serves as the Lab's research coordinator. The UGA Deer Lab is housed at The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources on the main UGA campus in Athens, Georgia. Graduate students, wildlife technicians, and undergraduates conduct research on wild deer, other wildlife, and natural habitats at various Field Research Sites. We also study deer at the Whitehall Deer Research facility which is located about 10 minutes from main campus.

The UGA Deer Lab has conducted deer-related research since the late 1960s. Pioneering researchers included Dr. Jim Jenkins, whose co-invention of the dart gun paved the way for deer restoration efforts. Dr. R. Larry Marchinton was integral to unlocking the social ecology of deer. Dr. Robert J. Warren was world-renown for his deer physiology research and his many studies of urban deer populations. Numerous alumni of our school's program have gone on to make major contributions to the field of wildlife science and management. A list of former faculty, staff and graduate students can be found at: Previous Deer Lab Members.
